Spending the summer holidays at home – 10 tips and ideas

The summer holidays are just around the corner. However, everything is going to be slightly different this year – due to the current situation, we’ll be spending a lot more of our summer holidays at home. Sounds boring? Not if you ask us! We’ll show you how you can enjoy a summer holiday like no other at home and inspire you with our tips.

1. Discover your area

Think you’ve already discovered all the local hotspots? Maybe there’s a cafe you always walk past that’s just waiting to be discovered. The best things are often closer than we might think. Why not take a stroll around your area and keep your eyes peeled for something new – you never know what you might stumble across!

2. Discover Switzerland

You don’t need to travel abroad to discover beautiful places. Quite the opposite, in fact. Switzerland has a lot to offer – in every respect. When was the last time you went hiking? Have you ever swum in a mountain lake and enjoyed the stunning view? Or are you a city person and want to discover new urban areas? There’s something for everyone in Switzerland. Get inspired.

3. Spruce up your home

During periods when we spend more time at home, our own four walls become more important than ever before, as does feeling comfortable there. Have you always wanted to paint your walls a different colour? Or maybe you’ve often thought about what the sofa would look like on the other side of the living room? Try it out and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to make your home even more beautiful.

4. Feel like a kid again

When was the last time you had a water fight, or ran into the lake, totally ecstatic? When was the last time you ate some chips by the pool? Was it a long time ago? Then it’s high time to relive all the memories from your childhood! Put your worries aside for a moment, and just have fun. You’ll see how much good it does to release your inner child.

5. Put a tent in the garden or on the balcony (or in the living room)

It doesn’t matter if you have kids or not – spending a night in the fresh air is always an exciting experience. Enjoy a night under the stars and make it super cosy! Don’t have a garden or a balcony? Then spend the night in the living room – push all your furniture to one side and put out a mattress. Read books till the early hours, listen to audiobooks or tell stories for a super cosy night in! Still looking for an apartment with a balcony or garden? Start your search now!

6. Make your own ice cream

Have you ever made your own ice cream during the hot summer months? No? Then now’s the time! No matter if it’s ice lollies or ice cream – you get to choose. If we’re being honest, homemade always tastes best.

You can find ice lolly recipes here.

7. Try out a new sport

Hate sport? It doesn’t have to be that way. Maybe you just haven’t found the right sport for you. There are so many different types – from the more obvious types such as jogging, cycling or strength training, to team sports such as football, volleyball or handball, through to trampolining, canoeing and fencing. So, pick something that you think you’ll enjoy and have a go – it’ll be worth it!

8. Discover binge watching

In Switzerland, we’re used to the weather not always playing along. On rainy days, there’s nothing better than snuggling up on the sofa and watching an episode of your favourite series. Or maybe two. Or three. Or…now you’re binge watching! Is your home not cozy enough? Start your search to find a new home!

9. Treat yourself to a spa day

Wellness doesn’t always have to be expensive. Treat yourself to a spa day at home and pamper yourself. For example, use a face mask, exfoliate your body and enjoy some delicious snacks. And voila, a spa day has never been so easy!

10. Simply do nothing

In our hectic daily lives, moments in which we do absolutely nothing are few and far between. That’s why your body and mind benefit from simply doing nothing – so sit back and relax! You’re sure to have time during the holidays to do nothing (but maybe not if you’ve got kids ;-)).
